defeated by Teton Sioux and Northern Cheyenne Native Americans. Events leading to the battle, including roles of competing tribes and their alliances, some with the soldiers, and influence of settlers on the conflicts in the region. Pre-battle movements are given, as well as the relocations that occurred during the fight. The story today is known from accounts of those who survived on both sides. (While all those with Custer were killed, there were some in other positions that survived. Story of rescue of these survivors via overland transport to steamboat for a 710-mile ride to Bismark, North Dakota is also told.) Effects of weapons during the battle are considered.
